The boat house is situated a little more than a mile away from Bedford Modern School, in a scenic setting next to the Great River Ouse. The building itself is shared with the other Harper Trust schools, Bedford School, Bedford high and Dame Alice Harpur school who also share these waters, with BMS taking the right most section. Bedford Modern currently own 34 boats, from all boat classes and with top specs.
The Boat Club history dates back to 1878 and in 2005 had its first female athletes representing the school. The boat club has a rich and colourful history, winning the Child Beale Cup in 1999, reaching 4th in Championships eights in 2006 and winning the Four's Cup in 2008.
Many athletes thrive in this hard working community, and go on to represent Great Britain and beyond. Past rowers such as the Cambridge Cox Kenelm Richardson and Olympic Gold Medallist Tim Foster.
As a celebration of both the old boys and the new athletes, there is a annual race between the old boys and the schools 1st and 2nd VIIIs, which is normally arranged near the Boat Race time. So far the 1st VIII remain undefeated.
